Knee Problems are Back for Point Guard Derrick Rose

The point guard problem strikes again. After we pointed out the risk of their injury in this post it appears that Derrick Rose is down again. Just after coming back from a torn ACL in his left knee, Rose tore his meniscus in his right knee. But we think this is more than bad luck.

As we discussed in the previous article, point guards are particularly susceptible to injury in their knees because of the start-and-stop nature of the position. With so much wear and tear on the tendons, even a small misstep can lead to serious injury, as is the case for Rose.

Fortunately for the Chicago Bulls, Rose wasn't as much of a key player as some had hoped he would be in his returning season. With Rose only averaging 15.9 points and 4.3 assists per game, some began to wonder whether the prior knee injury was having a lingering effect on his play. And while Rose was already discussing rehab options in the hospital, doctors do not necessarily deny that he may have permanent effects on his play as a result of the subsequent injury.

Add this to the previous injuries of Rajon Rondo and Russel Westbrook and the question still begs: do we need to worry about keeping our point guards safe?
