Lifting gloves are a great thing, they really are. Really, lifting gloves are no different than lineman gloves, or receiver gloves, or batting gloves. They improve your grip and pad against impact – they're just straight up comfortable.
But there is something, though, that still makes them suspect in the weight room. For one thing, we have that image in our head of the local Gold’s Gym guy. You know who I’m talking about, he wears the hat when he lifts, Affliction shirts make appearances on chest day, and his head phones are tethered to the white iPhone on his bicep band. Speaking of biceps, he loves the way they look when he drives his crotch rocket home. Come on, we've all seen the lifting glove memes.
However, a true gym warrior can rock some gloves during powerlifts and simply explain that he’s just not in the market for bleeding calluses. This person just says that having improved grip and comfort is a logical thing to do.
But so what if your calluses bleed! That’s part of the deal. You can’t be worried about that when you're Winning The Day. You’re an athlete and you’re not going to tape you’re whole by body for the game or wear Sean Alexander elbow pads, right?
Honestly, this is a tough one. You may be the logical athlete that aims for comfort and doesn’t look to make a fashion statement or you can give zero ____ and make fun of the lifting gloves. There is an argument for both sides.
