Introduction

In many schools, strength and conditioning is still treated like an afterthought — a box to check or an elective to fill. Coach Travis Lombardozzi set out to rewrite that narrative.

“My program is built on providing proof that my role is essential.”

Like many high school strength coaches, Travis wasn’t just designing workouts;  he was fighting to prove the value of his position. To do that, he needed to demonstrate real, measurable impact, not only with athletes but with every student who walked into his weight room.

“This isn’t just a class... We’re a program. Fully functional, fully integrated into the school day.”

His mission mirrors what many schools like Brunswick High are facing, too: Strength coaches trying to manage large groups, justify their roles, and build programs that could grow and last.

Challenges

At Brunswick High School, managing strength training for large groups of student-athletes once meant juggling Excel spreadsheets, paper handouts, and endless workarounds. It was time-consuming, clunky, and hard to scale — and it’s a reality Travis knew all too well.

Starting from scratch, Travis managed over 200 students across multiple classes with varied goals, experience levels, and schedules — all with Excel.

“How do you collect meaningful data on 200 students, show individual progress, and scale that across multiple coaches?”

The old system had its limits:

  • Manual input and printing consumed valuable time.
  • Version control issues created confusion when workouts changed.
  • Paper handouts got lost or damaged.
  • Real-time data tracking was nearly impossible.
  • Progress updates relied on periodic manual reviews.

Solution

Both Brunswick and Coach Lombardozzi found their answer in TeamBuildr. What began as a leap of faith became one of the most impactful decisions either had made.

Coach Lombardozzi adopted TeamBuildr to streamline his programming and amplify his reach — saving time, increasing collaboration, and strengthening school-wide engagement.

“It’s a no-brainer. I can build a detailed four-week program in 20 minutes or less.”

Brunswick experienced the same transformation:

  • Digital workout delivery replaced printing and spreadsheets.

  • Real-time logging gave coaches visibility into effort and progress.

  • Leaderboards sparked athlete engagement across groups.

  • Calendar tools made duplicating and adjusting workouts easy.

  • Team feed features kept everyone informed and motivated.

Coaching became more strategic. More hands-on. Less buried in logistics.

“There’s always at least one sport coach in the weight room working with me on TeamBuildr programs,” Travis shared.

Most importantly, the shift to digital training delivery brought new depth to student engagement. Mental health and wellness were actively tracked over 16 weeks, with clear improvement.

“Our students associate this class with improvements in their mental health.”

And by integrating with the PE department and aligning with state standards, Travis made his role indispensable to the academic fabric of the school.

Results

Today, Coach Lombardozzi leads a self-sustaining, fully integrated strength and conditioning program that supports both athletes and general students and validates the necessity of his position.

“This program created a fully functional strength and conditioning culture that runs itself.”

The TeamBuildr platform gives his entire coaching staff the tools to contribute, collaborate, and lead, all while maintaining consistency and program standards.

“We can all work in TeamBuildr simultaneously. That was a sleeper bonus I never expected but now can’t live without.”

At Brunswick, similar gains were felt:

  • Athlete ownership skyrocketed as students tracked their progress.

  • Coaching efficiency improved, with more time spent on the floor.

  • Consistency across classes and teams increased year over year.

Coach Lombardozzi proved that strength and conditioning isn’t an add-on — it’s a foundational piece of a school's educational and athletic mission.

“This class is a service, and it proves why I’m here.”

Even sport coaches became advocates:

“They’re going to the Athletic Director saying, ‘This is our team. This program is self-sustaining.”

The result? A professional-grade system that lifts every student, empowers every coach, and redefines what high school strength and conditioning can be.
