Samsung and Under Armour Teaming Up Against Nike & Apple

Reports are out this week that Samsung and Under Armour executives are meeting over an apparent deal similar to Nike's deal with Apple.

If you haven't noticed yet, Nike and Apple have been making serious waves about partnering up to create a wearable beyond the line of "Nike+" apps. It's not secret that Apple and Nike are good buddies - Apple's CEO also sits on Nike's board and their apps have always been compatible with each other. Nike has even given up on making a fitness wearable. A few months ago, Nike discontinued its Fuelband and will apparently let Apple create a product for them instead (which has been rumored to be the upcoming iWatch). That only means that their biggest rivals have to make a move as well, right? Of course!

Under Armour once tried to create it's own device - the Armour39 - which has not been very successful. But, with Under Armour's recent purchase of MapMyFitness, they have the technology to be a big player when they come out with their next device. With Samsung's massive hardware portfolio on their side, the duo could very well put out some impressive gadgets and also take over a large portion of the market (there are many more Samsung phones than Apple phones in the world).

There's no telling what the implications are when huge companies like this team up, but you can bet it will only make the rivalries more bitter than they already are (think Gatorade vs. Powerade). We're thinking Lebron James, sponsored by both Nike and Samsung, is going to be put between a rock and a hard place when it comes to his promotion of a fitness wearable (The Decision 2.0 anybody?).
