After only two years into his career, NFL lineman John Moffitt of the Denver Broncos has decided to retire. At 27 years old, it is highly unusual to retire while being signed and dressing out for every game and Moffitt's decision to leave the game - and his career - is interesting considering the circumstance.

So why the sudden departure? “I just really thought about it and decided I’m not happy. I’m not happy at all,” Moffitt told the Associated Press, via ESPN.com. It was not only his mental well-being that drove the decision - it was also physical. To Moffit, the risk of injury simply wasn't worth the money, certainly a relevant concern considering the severity of concussions in the NFL.

But the decision certainly cost him. Since he left midway through the season Moffitt had to give up $1 million in cash. But he stands by the fact that it's crazy to risk your body or mental well-being for money. He also made it clear he wasn't leaving because of his lack of playing time for Denver.

So what now? Moffitt plans to spend more time with his family and produce podcasts about his opinions on philosophy and politics. He plans to stay away from the topic of sports.

Do you think Moffitt's retirement is reasonable? Would you give up $1 million in cash to keep your good health?
